Late Summer Update…Home Away From Home

Emily’s back porch is absolutely gorgeous but in need of some serious color. She recently had her existing patio furniture recovered but wasn’t sure what to do next. The space felt awkward and plain so she asked me to pull together a few ideas to spruce the place up.

The brick floors and columns create plenty of texture against the white house so we needed a way to make the space feel connected to the architectural elements.

I created two floor plan options for her to try. I suggested that she try each one, photograph it and then take a look at the images to select the layout that feels more comfortable.

Options #1: Blues and greens brighten up the muted cushion fabric while the mix of pattern, stripes and a solid compliment the white graphic pattern.  I know the garden stool is somewhat cliche  but it brings in interest, color and can be used as a side table. Emily LOVES Jill Rosenwald’s Hampton Links earthenware and I think they are perfect coffee table accents.

Option #2: Reds and greens. I think this is my favorite scheme because the warmer color palette ties in perfectly with the brick and stone tops on the iron coffee and side table.
