Snow Day #3

3 Feb

Sooo….it’s been a bit boring around The Studio the past few days and with business closing because of the “rolling blackouts” it’s pretty lame around here. Since the sleet/ice/snow hit Dallas Monday night, running errands and getting work done has been a big challenge.  Plus, who wants to sit in traffic on ice covered roads?  My hubby has 4 wheel drive on the truck and it has helped fight off cabin fever. We have made random trips to Target and the local Mexican restaurant but that’s about it.

I thought I would share a few pics from the past two days around The Studio. The girls have been stir crazy and Ivy refuses to go out on the ice at all. I love how they pop into the office every so often to say hello.  Caddo loves to give kisses and drop her squeaky toys by my feet to see if I’ll give into her fetch game.

Ivy on the other hand is board with it all. Just when I think she wants in my lap to be sweet, she tries to snag my hot chocolate!

And with all of this office time on my hands, I have managed to update SHOP TEN 25 with our latest vendor, MAE WEST HOME.  MWH hand makes each of the gorgeous pillows with fabrics from designers like Kelly Wearstler and David Hicks. Invisible zippers, silk velvet backings and down inserts….Oh MY!  I can’t wait to add her custom shower curtains and more pillows with fabrics from Windsor Smith & Barbara Barry too.

Shop Ten 25′s Top 10

30 Dec

I have been wrapping  up 2010 in The Shop and am preparing  for many new and fabulous pieces in 2011. I though it would be fun to share the TOP 10 pieces in the shop from this past year!   SHOP TEN 25 officially opened in  April 201o as a small online boutique with no more than 200 pieces. We were so blessed and overwhelmed by everyone’s support that we just had to expand! In October 2010 we launched a much bigger, fancier Shop and loaded it with over 1000 gorgeous pieces!

One of my favorite features at The Shop is the GALLERY. It’s a great place to see the pieces from the shop in a real life application.

Take a look at the top 10 selling items from The Shop from 2010! And because you loved them SO MUCH, they are all 20% through Friday January 7th..WHOO HOO!

The Office…That’s What She Said

10 Dec

When designing a home office for a guy, there are many things to consider.  The most important thing to consider is how will the office fit in with the rest of the house.  My clients went with a modern and eclectic look throughout their home so his office needed to play off of that.  The perfect compromise between a husband and wife…she has the house and he has his “man room”!

I am a big fan of graphic patterns and so is my client.  We started looking at graphic wallpaper options to use on the back accent wall but ended up going with that look in another room.

You can see the finish board HERE.

We selected Benjamin Moore’s Affinity  in Weimeraner for the back accent wall. It was the perfect color.  Your eye is still drawn to the back wall but we are not drawing attention to the long narrow shape of the room.  In this case, simple was better.

Since my client is a University of Texas grad, he wanted to bring in pieces that were familiar to him with out designing the entire room in the burnt orange and white color scheme!  The Arabesque Rug from Global Views was the perfect compromise for this office. It brought in the graphic pattern and pops of orange and white!

Piecing the rest of the office together was easy. Now that we had the rug as a jumping off point, we needed to keep the rest of the space open and simple. This white lacquer Studly console was the perfect fit for the back wall and provides a place for my client to keep his printer, files and office knick knacks.

We knew we wanted shelving on the walls but our favorite wall shelves from Design Within Reach were too large and a bit pricy. We found these Tesso Bookcase wall shelves from CB2. The chrome finish works with the rest of the office accents and the glass shelves help to keep the narrow room from feeling crowded.

For the desk in the office, my client found the  Strut Work Table from Crate &  Barrel but the glass top offered was going to take over the space. So we purchased the base and had a custom piece of glass cut to fit the area and now we can keep that fabulous rug front and center!

The University of Texas fountain painting was commissioned by my client. He was able to get the look and size he wanted for the back wall. The white leather Lider Desk Chair from Zgallerie  in white ties in with the console and white in the rug and keeps the space feeling modern and masculine.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these roman shades. We selected a heavily textured cotton in a neutral color for the shades, the color blends with the existing wall color and pops against the dark espresso trim.  The orange and ivory greek key trim was purchased from a local fabric store and looks amazing! The pattern is modern and masculine and the color works perfectly with the Arabesque Rug.

Home Away From Home: Living With Options

23 Nov

I recently finished a Home Away From Home project with two color options for the living room. It’s always nice to show a client how versatile their existing pieces can be with just a few simple changes.  This living room has dark espresso wood floors, a fresh coat of soft blue paint on the walls and a fabulous creme sofa to anchor the space.  Here are the additions we suggested!

COLOR OPTION #1:  GREEN & TEAL

With such simple basics in place, adding a pop of color and pattern will bring the room into the eclectic chic feel my client is after.  The silk drapes bring in a touch of sophistication while the warmer green hue is fun and a great accent against the blue walls.  By using pillows and x-benches to bring in more of the green and teal accent color, this room screams chic!

COLOR OPTION #2:  BLUE & YELLOW

If a softer look & feel is what my client is more comfortable with, this palette is going to be the best choice.  By using an eclectic patterned drape, we are able to set the stage for the blue and yellow accents.  When we change out the rug with something more simple but still graphic, the overall feel stays eclectic.  I love mixing patterns in a room, it keeps you eye moving.  And by keeping the pattern similar in color, they will relate well to each other.

Drapes In Boteh Jade:  I love the fact that we can do the drapes or roman shade.  I also like the white with blue accent roman shade mixed with the drapes.
