My Style Formula…Via Sketch 42

6 Dec

Nicole from Sketch 42 is a freelance writer and amazing artist in NYC.   I first met Nicole on twitter and immediately fell in love with her pieces!  This one is my favorites…..

I have enjoyed seeing the posts about her apartment….can you say STUNNING!! It’s very Elle Decor and the fact that she rocks Kelly Wearstler has me sold!  Her use of bold graphics paired with the black & white color palette are gorgeous and ready for a super chic cocktail party!!!  The cornice board in the master reminds of me of a living room project I recently finished. The crisp white piece works beautifully with the black walls too.

Nicole describes her style formula as..classic masculine + bold neutrals+ a heavy dose of black + mixed metal hardware+ little bit of glam.  See her post HERE.

NOW IT IS TIME FOR ME TO REVEAL MY STYLE FORMULA.

Since I am no longer a single lady and have to consider my sweet hubby in MOST of our home’s design decisions, my style has changed quite a bit.  I actually love that my style formula has evolved into the Rustic Glam style that we live with now.  I have always loved a dash of  masculine touches in a space to balance out the girly glam I tend to gravitate towards.

My Rustic Glam style formula has two major parts.

The first part, Kelly Wearstler.  Pulling inspiration from her graphic rugs and bold accent pieces are elements that we can both agree on in our home.

The second part , Martyn Lawerence-Bullard.  Masculine elements such as natural stone, wood and leather are the perfect way to bring in the rustic element of the formula.

By adding a few elements of Tobi Fairly’s modern traditional flair, we can have a few classic pieces with great modern fabrics and colors.

It’s easy for me to add touch of glam,  Woodson & Rummerfield’s “High Style” is the perfect way to keep our home chic.

There you have it!  The Fenimore’s Style formula….let’s call it  Masculine Chic + Classic Comfort + touches of glam + natural elements + pops of bold graphic patterns = Rustic Glam!

Sitting Around The Bedroom

3 Dec

I love having a bench at the end of our bed. We use it everyday, especially in the mornings when we are getting ready.  The more popular uses for our bench: putting our shoes,  sitting down to get a little cuddle time with the girls (they love the bench) and plopping down while getting dressed for the day to watch t.v. and procrastinate.

If you have the space, adding a bench, love seat or even x-benches at the end of your bed is a must in my opinion.  I love the comfortable and cozy feel that it brings to a room.   And, if you looking to bring in a accent color or fun graphic pattern, this is the perfect place to do so. Do you have seating at the end of your bed?  Do you use that seating or is it just for looks?

p and t

2 Dec

There are days around the Studio when finding any shred of inspiration is just…well…exhausting.  Looking for unique and dazzling ways to create something fabulous for each project can bring a fresh perspective to the design process.  Just when I was about to click the round “x” button at the top left of my screen…I spotted this fabulous black and white room.

Let the inspiration pour, P and T interiors in New York are officially my new design crush!  I love the lack of, as well as the brazen use of color in their projects.  Gorgeous fabrics, tons of texture and all done with simplicity.

My December

1 Dec

Welcome December.  I love the holiday season, long awaited time with family and lots of nights by the fireplace.  Dru (my hubby) and I have the perfect house for cold weather, our wood burning fireplace may be his #1 reason for purchasing this house.  When we moved in the fireplace was well…um…just bad.  Since it was going to be the “heart” of our home, it deserved to be given a make over.

From just plain icky and random the month we moved in (December 2007)…

To Fenimore fabulous in 2010…

And now that it is December we must adorn it with the perfect “rustic glam” accessories.  I love our snowflake stockings, we picked them up at Lowe’s for our first Christmas together in 2003.  In 2004 they were monogramed… and in 2007 we added two for our future children (that would be Caddo & Ivy). This year we added these bottle brush trees from Wistera to the mantle. I love the glam of the glitter mixed with the rustic feel of the wood bases.

Oh Christmas Tree

30 Nov

I love the look of a modern unique Christmas Tree even though I would never have the nerve to put one up in my own house.  Christmas is one of the few “traditional” things in my life and I like it that way. Stockings hung by the fireplace, our names monogramed on them and a Christmas Tree filled with memories from my childhood. I love having ornaments that were made in grade school or pieces from my grandparent’s tree.

This past weekend,  we headed out to a tree farm and selected our tree for this Christmas! My husband is not a fan of the fake Christmas tree. He loves the aroma from a real tree has and feels that it makes our house a home during the holiday season. A Fenimore family tradition that started in 2009 and will carry on!

Here we are with the girls at the tree farm. Picking out a tree is like grocery shopping when your hungary! We would find a beautiful tree that was “perfect” until we realized that an 11′ tree would not fit in our living room!  So we moved on to something in the 7′ range!

I love the modern look of a white christmas tree. It can be so chic and glamorous.

Pink trees are spectacular! I would have loved one of these in my room growing up!

Black trees can also be glamorous and chic when done in the right way.

Project look book

29 Nov

One of my latest projects was recently photographed by Melanie Johnson and I am so excited to share the details.  This may look familiar to some of you because I have been sharing bits and pieces of this home for months now. This project has been part of my life for the past 12 months and I know my clients are relieved to have everything complete.  We started with a house that was outfitted with standards that most homebuilders use, ripped it all out and started over!  The home is now modern, stylish and chic with gorgeous patterns and accent pieces.

As the final images are completed, I will share  them as well as more details from each room.  So for now, I am sharing the gorgeous “look book” that Melanie has created!

From the moment you walk in, the entry sets the tone for the rest of the home!  How can you not be drawn to the mirrored Peabody console table  and stunning Jellyfish chandelier?

The casual dining area sits just behind the sofa and the light from the surrounding windows keeps this tiny space from feeling so cramped. By using a small round glass top table, we keep the space open and we are able to show that fabulous Duralee fabric on the seat cushions!

This view of the main living area was taken from inside the fireplace…don’t ask!  My favorite pieces in the room are the accent chairs in Windor Smith’s Riad fabric!!  I love the overall feel of this room, it is cozy and chic.

My favorite room…the master bedroom, I love the mix of patterns. From the graphic metallic wallpaper accent wall and velvet drapes to the custom art work this room makes my heart pitter patter!  No glamorous master bedroom would be complete without a chandelier. This black crystal chandelier is the perfect accessory!

Giving Thanks

25 Nov

Wishing you all a very happy and yummy Thanksgiving! The Fenimore house is buzzing…mostly in the kitchen.  The turkey fryer is heating up, the sides are ready to heat and the table is set.  I love my table setting this year!!!  Sunflowers and tulips fill the vases around the house and my new table cloth from the Wistera outlet brings in the perfect pop of fall color!!

What are you thankful for this year?  I’m thankful for my family, puppies and my growing business. This has been a very happy year and Studio Ten 25 has had many blessings!

Home Away From Home: Living With Options

23 Nov

I recently finished a Home Away From Home project with two color options for the living room. It’s always nice to show a client how versatile their existing pieces can be with just a few simple changes.  This living room has dark espresso wood floors, a fresh coat of soft blue paint on the walls and a fabulous creme sofa to anchor the space.  Here are the additions we suggested!

COLOR OPTION #1:  GREEN & TEAL

With such simple basics in place, adding a pop of color and pattern will bring the room into the eclectic chic feel my client is after.  The silk drapes bring in a touch of sophistication while the warmer green hue is fun and a great accent against the blue walls.  By using pillows and x-benches to bring in more of the green and teal accent color, this room screams chic!

COLOR OPTION #2:  BLUE & YELLOW

If a softer look & feel is what my client is more comfortable with, this palette is going to be the best choice.  By using an eclectic patterned drape, we are able to set the stage for the blue and yellow accents.  When we change out the rug with something more simple but still graphic, the overall feel stays eclectic.  I love mixing patterns in a room, it keeps you eye moving.  And by keeping the pattern similar in color, they will relate well to each other.

Drapes In Boteh Jade:  I love the fact that we can do the drapes or roman shade.  I also like the white with blue accent roman shade mixed with the drapes.
