So Chic

5 Jul

This has to be one of my favorite color palettes! Black, white, yellow and pops of turquoise turned this cold lifeless area into a chic and eclectic open living space. Vintage pieces, hip fabrics and  pops of  bright colors mixed perfectly with the concrete floors and wall of this loft.

Because we were working with an open space, I wanted to create individual areas to relax & entertain but bring them all together using color.  I kept all of the furniture in neutral colors like black, white and cream.  This allowed me to bring in the yellow and turquoise as accent colors through the art and accessories.

Instead of creating the standard entry console that has no use, I added an open shelf piece that will serve as a bar when entertaining.

Since the dining room is also open to the entry and living room, I wanted to area to become part of the space and not not look like an afterthought.  I found this oval vintage bamboo table and had it refinished in a crisp white.  The matching chairs also  needed to be refinished and the seats were recovered in a black and white garden trellis fabric from Paula Prass that I picked up at City Craft.

And….last but not least! The living room creates and open area that is a cozy place to read, watch T.V. enjoy the downtown view from the patio. This was a great opportunity to layer two rugs. The sisal rug keeps the furniture grouping together while the addition of the zebra hyde rug helps to tie the large space together with pattern.

The details make this room.  The large canvas over the media cabinet (Ikea Trollsta) brings in a more contemporary feel to balance out the vintage pieces.

The coffee table is my favorite part of the room.  It’s he best place to bring in fun and unique accessories.
